Sourdough, Sausage Dogs & Supper Clubs
We head to Epsom’s Laura Scott’s for a morning of baking wizardry.

Despite Laura Scott’s confident assurances that all we would need is ‘a bowl and hands’ to learn the wizardry of producing sourdough loaves, OUT still signed up for Laura’s Sourdough Pop Up morning with both trepidation and resurfacing memories of horrific school cookery lessons.
Thankfully a morning with Laura and a handful of other bread lovers was nothing like our memories of sweating over rubber textured scones in the 1980s. The pop up sessions take place at Laura’s stunning house in Epsom – think huge, newly renovated kitchen with marble work tops and floor to ceiling doors leading to the garden – where you can plonk yourself on a stool with a mugful of coffee, a homemade chocolate brownie and, if lucky, a dachshund named Frank perched on your knee.
After an easy to follow and incredibly informal couple of hours learning the intricacies of sourdough, Laura produced a lunch of homemade soup and (far too moreish for midday) local wine as well an opportunity to try the fruits of the morning’s labour. We left clutching a pot of sourdough starter, well written instructions to continue our breadmaking at home and wishing we had worn elastic waisted trousers.
Laura’s approachable and completely unintimidating style really works: she offers a number of pop ups and cookery lessons both for adults and kids as well as hosting The Epsom Supper Club every month.

Next sourdough demo & lunch will be on 7thSeptember and there are still tickets for upcoming supper clubs in September and October: more details and fab looking recipes available athowtocookgoodfood.co.uk
