Yes! Pleesecakes

From rubbing down skirting boards and roller-painting ceilings to decorating cheesecakes with seriously creative combos, we chat to Joe Moruzzi, founder of Pleesecakes and one of Epsom and Ewell’s very own.

What started as a side hustle to earn some extra cash suddenly became an overnight success. Thanks to an Instagram shout-out from Joe Wicks (who just so happens to be one of Moruzzi’s good pals), Pleesecakes received over 50 orders within hours of launching. “It was definitely a case of being chucked in at the deep end, which looking back was quite daunting but there was no time to stop and think about what was going on,” Joe tells us.

Since then, Pleesecakes has gone on to produce indulgent McVitie’s-ladened creations for Her Majesty the Queen, and even ventured into the realm of savoury cheeseboard-inspired affairs featuring balsamic glazed figs and a cream cracker crust. When it comes to the design process, it seems anything goes. “We’re very freestyle. We let our creativity bounce off one another and create cheesecakes based on our favourite flavours,” says Joe.

So, what’s next for Pleesecakes? “It’s a big year coming up,” Joe says excitedly. “We are focusing on expanding nationally and internationally, as well as working on a few new products which I can’t say too much about,” he teases.

If – like us – you were wondering whether Joe can still stomach a slice of the sweet stuff, the answer is yes. But asking Moruzzi for his ideal combo was like asking a parent to choose their favourite child. “That’s a very difficult question,” he mulls. Understandably, he settled on a caramel core Banoffee, bedecked with banana and a heavy sprinkling of chocolate. With a home delivery option too, the only thing left to say is, ‘yes please to Pleesecakes.’
