OUT recommends – Charlie & Ginger

Newly opened, independent coffee house in the heart of Epsom

Step into Charlie & Ginger, and the attention to detail is immediately apparent. From the brass door handles – dating back to 1906 when the Grade II listed, Wellington Inn pub was rebuilt – to the preserved original fire place, proudly on display behind glass in the entrance. Charlotte Myson, co-founder says, “Detail means a lot to us. Going out is a treat (especially now with the cost-of- living-crisis) so more than ever, it’s essential to deliver well on everything – atmosphere, service and quality. Our aim is for customers to leave in a better mood than when they arrived. Going for coffee means taking time for yourself, you’re catching up with friends, refuelling, having five minutes before work; it’s always a treat for yourself in some way.”

“Going for coffee means taking time for yourself”

After meeting her partner Chris, when they both worked in marketing, “he’s always been known as Ginger Chris and my dad would always call me Charlie,” they opened the first Charlie & Ginger in Leatherhead in 2019. Charlotte explains, “We were both used to London-quality coffee but were aware at how confusing to order and inconsistent it could be. So, we set out to create a welcoming, friendly environment with speciality coffee served the same way, every day – and now we’re in Epsom, offering the same great coffee experience and more.”

Boasting two speciality blends Charlotte says, “Our House, is great for milk-based coffee; it works with the sugars in the milk while Hodson is a subtle blend that we serve with water-based coffees. There’s a science to good coffee, and getting that great taste.”
