A helping hand

Local charity Home-Start provides emotional and practical support to families in need through their team of dedicated volunteers.

As many parents know, family life can often have its challenges and it’s not always easy to navigate how to access the right help and support when you need it.

Home-Start is a charity available across Kingston, Richmond and Hounslow providing non-judgemental support for any families with children under five experiencing mental health difficulties, post-natal depression, loneliness, bereavement, effects of domestic abuse and physical health problems.

A friendly approach

Through home visits, hosting family groups at the local community centre, offering a ‘walk and talk’ or just a listening ear, the Home-Start team help families by providing face to face, hands-on support that really makes a difference.

Lasting impact

It’s the hard work and dedication of the volunteers and supporters that has helped thousands of local families over the last 30 years. Their guidance and practical help have been empowering families, making them more confident, resilient and connected within the community which provides a more positive outlook for their children.

“Many tell us how life-changing the support has been.”

Sarah Villegas, Head of Marketing and Fundraising, explains how valuable their volunteers are. “One of our proudest achievements is the profound impact our volunteers have had on families. Many tell us how life-changing the support has been. Whether it’s helping them regain confidence in parenting or feeling less isolated.”

Volunteers needed

Word of mouth has brought more people to the service which means there is a real need for more volunteers, as Sarah explains:
“The on-going cost of living crisis is putting pressure on families, so our support is more crucial than ever right now, the rising demand for our services means we urgently need more volunteers to help families in need.”

What is required?

“Just a few hours a week can make a difference that lasts a lifetime. Our volunteers are compassionate, empathetic, reliable and dedicated individuals. Many are parents, grandparents or carers themselves, bringing their own life experiences to support families with kindness and understanding. Volunteers are at the heart of our work, and with your help, we can ensure no family in the area faces hardship alone.”

A chance to connect

“Many of our volunteers enjoy the personal connection they build with families knowing they’re making a real difference in someone’s life. As well as providing valuable support, you’ll gain new skills, a sense of fulfilment and connection to your local community.” The charity offers the necessary training and guidance so you can feel prepared and supported.

Help create brighter futures

“Local businesses and community support are at the heart of what keeps our work going strong. Whether you can offer your time, a donation, host a fundraiser or join a match funding campaign every contribution makes a real difference.”
