Estelle Buckland, founder of local running club; Run Away Girl Social, has created a place where women can feel encouraged, supported, build confidence and make new friends, all while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. “We are a friendly all girl team of social runners. We run the river path together at a comfortable pace, the community is the focus not the competition.” Here she shares her favourite places to visit locally.

Teddington highlight – if you’re in the area,
do not miss a visit to this place?

“The Flying Cloud Cafe run by Justine is really
special, a fab airstream on the riverside, just
by the lock bridge. There is nothing better than
a big slice of her home-made Victoria Sponge
and a cuppa in the sunshine overlooking the river.”

Morning coffee? Where to go to fuel up for the day?

“Hands down, Parsnips, the coffee is so good and the team are lovely. I can’t resist the incredible array of treats on offer…the cakes and pastries are pretty phenomenal and the pancake menu is fabulous, including gluten free (hooray!)”

For a moment of calm?

“A walk in Bushy Park. When it’s quiet, early morning or at dusk as you’ll likely see the bunnies running about and the deer, maybe a woodpecker. On summer evenings bats and owls too – although you quite often hear the owls rather than see them!”

Your favourite route for a run?

“My favourite run is the Tuesday evening Run Away Girl Social route! We meet at Teddington Lock Bridge for a 6:30pm start, running a 5km riverside loop. It’s particularly lovely at sunset. Every other week we have options for a longer Sunday run of 9km, 12km, or 16km. If we’re really lucky, we have Sophie join us on the disco bike, carrying our supplies and keeping us motivated!”
