As the autumn air slowly starts to creep in, there’s something comforting about slowing down for a long, indulgent afternoon tea – and The Mitre at Hampton Court serves one of the best around

Their Botanical Afternoon Tea from the Signet Collection is a seasonal celebration of flavour and florals and at The Mitre’s riverside setting, it feels extra special. Priced at £42 per person (including a chilled glass of AIX Rosé), it’s a warming way to welcome the new season, whether you cosy up indoors or opt for al fresco and take in the river views.

The savoury selection includes a rich Cheddar custard tart with English peas and petals as well as a black pepper chicken brioche and a beautiful smoked salmon ‘rose’ on a soft blini. Lemon and poppyseed scones arrive warm, ready to be slathered in jam and cream.

“Full of floral flavours, delicate savouries and indulgent autumnal sweetness.”

Also available at Signet’s other hotels, including The Retreat at Elcot Park and The Alfriston in East Sussex, the tea feels at home here in Hampton Court – just a short hop from Kingston but a world away in charm.
